Not illustrated. 1902 edition. Excerpt: ...the master has made his own charge. The present schoolmaster was appointed at a meeting of the land-owners, in March 1825. No terms were made with him as to the amount of the quarterage, and he accordingly fixed his own terms. In the time of the late master, the number of the scholars had been very much reduced. There. were at the time of our inquiry, August 1825, twenty-five children in the school. The vicar of Preston, and the incumbent (if the chapel of Broughton, in whom the land at Norshaw is vested, appear never to have acted as trustees on behalf of the school. There were formerly some of the inhabitants of the toivnsliip who acted in that capacity, but there are none at the present time. It seems, however very desirable, that the inhabitants should appoint some persons to superinlend ihe management of the school. Ill. The following is the description of the Charities of this Township contained in the General Digest, 1865-8: --IV. There are references to this Townsiiip in the Charity Commissioners' Register of Unrcportcd Cliai-mes, the substance of which is embodied in the following Report. V. The township is nov an Urban District under the name of Fulwood, with a population of 5,238. Its: connection with the mother parish of Lancaster has never been but of the slightest, and in Gastrell's Notilt-ia. Oeslriensis it is recorded that at that date (172_2)_the vicar of Laucastci" paid 38. 4d. per annum to the vicar of Preston, " that being (as it is supposed) an acknowledgment for the care he may take of that part." This township, indeed, is a suburb of Preston. VI. The Inquiry was held_in the, School, there being present Mr. W. B. Roper, J.P., Mayor of Preston; Messrs.
