Not illustrated. 1901 edition. Excerpt: ...children of defective eyesight from the use of the recommended glasses, and adds: ---" I regret, however, that either through poverty or for some other reason so large a number are still without them, and are attempting their writing and sewing under great difficulties." Surely, then, it is a matter of no small moment that care should be taken that the arrangement of the lighting in our schools be such as to do nothing to injure the eyesight of children of sound vision, or to aggravate the painful disabilities and discouraging difficulties of the many children whose vision is more or less defective. As I have frequently pointed out in the schools, existing faults in the incidence of the light could in many cases be removed simply by rearrangement of the seating. The comparatively slight labour and expense involved in this should not be grudged in view of the benefits to be gained, and in all such cases the carrying out of the needed improvement should be insisted on. But the following table, which gives these for the five months of work under the New Code, may be useful for reference and comparison in subsequent years: ----14 Mr. Andrew 8,286 1,663 3,061 3,531 31 15 Mi-.
