Not illustrated. 1902 edition. Excerpt: ...in Rural Districts is 8'7 per cent. of the total Rural population, while in the Urban Districts the proportion is 6'3 per cent. of the total Urban population. Of the Males enumerated in the Administrative County together with County' Boroughs, 133,567 are Unmarried, 85,562 are Married, and 9,300 are Widowed. Of the Females, 140,686 are Unmarried, 87,566 are Married, and 19,872 are Vidowed. The proportion of the Married in the Registration County to the population at all ages is now higher than it was in 1891, owing to the decrease in the proportion of children through the decline in the birth-rate. Table 29 shows, in combination, the ages of both Husbands and Vives in the Registration County; in 80,155 cases both the Husband and the Wife were enumerated in the same schedule, and were therefore presumably living together; and in addition there were 3,589 Husbands whose Wives were absent---that is, were not enumerated in the same schedule--and 5,598 Wives whose Husbands were absent, on the Census night. Pauper Inmates of Workhouse Establishments in the Registration County number 3,145 persons at all ages (equal to 0'7 per cent. of the population), of whom 1,767 are Males and 1,378 Females; at 55 years and upwards the percentage of the population of the same age in Woi'khouse Establishments is 2'5, and at 65 years and upwards 3'8. Prisoners in Local and Convict Prisons in the Registration County number 68, against 93 in 1891. Of these 63 are Males and 5...show more
