D. 1815 It cannot be said, that these injunctions and encourage ments to give alms, respected only the people to whom they were originally delivered. The Jewish Church were informed, by our text, that the poor should never cease out of the land; and our blessed Saviour told his disciples, that they should always have the poor with them. (matt. Xxvi. While the reason of enjoining a duty exists, that duty is obligatory and as the reason for giv ing charity will continue to the end of the world, the duty must be as lasting.
