for SA and piano or brass quintet or small orchestra This is an attractive, not difficult carol to a traditional Scottish text and with a gentle 'folk-y' feel. A flowing melody, complete with flattened 7ths and delicate Scotch snaps, appears in various guises, each verse ending with a lullaby refrain. It is available in both SATB and SA versions. Material is available on hire for an accompaniment for brass quintet and for small orchestra.

Review quote

And do buy it - the melody is haunting, the harmonies (especially in the four-part version) are warm and expressive, and the vocal and piano writing is idiomatic and effective. * Michael Nicholas CMQ September 02 * I love the melody to which the opening lines are set; it flows so simply yet so beautifully in triple time, giving real tranquillity and restfulness to the music. The flattened 7ths and gentle scotch snaps within the melodic lines and the open 5ths in the piano writing all help to give the piece its wonderful Scottish character and charm. The highpoint for me is the very simple refrain, lullaby-like in mood, with which each verse ends; the simplicity of this line set
against he quaver movement of the upper piano part is extremely effective. * Music Teacher March 2003 *
