Another monumental work of a deceased scientist, "Sreiiska sprakets lagar" ("The Laws of the Swedish Language'), by Johan Erik Rydqvist, has been finished by K. F. Siklerwall, who has added a sixth volume containing a dictionary. H. Edfeldt has edited the collected works of Prof. J. C. Bostroni, the only Swede who has founded an independent philosophical system, which at one time prevailed, almost to the exclusion of any other, among the younger generation at the Swedish universities. While passing in review these great names in Swedish literature, it may not be amiss to mention again the loss Sweden has suffered in the death of Sven Nilsson, the Nestor among Swedish savants and the recognized founder of the science of comparative archaeology. He died on the 30th of November, more than ninety-six years old. Prof. G. Mittag-Leffler has continued as editor-inchief of " Acta Malhematiea," published simultaneously in Stockholm and Berlin, and of which the first and second volumes have appeared during the year. Some illustrated works of importance have been published, among which is a second volume of F. W. Scholander's posthumous "Penntfckningar" (" Penn Drawings") in zinc-etching, illustrating in his inimitable manner four humorous fairy tales. The great event in artistic book illustration, however, is J. L. Runeberg's famous poems, "Fanrik State siigner" ( "Ensign StaTs Stories"), illustrated by Prof. A. Malmstrom, who is already known in this country by his illustrations of Tegner's "Frithiof s Saga."
