Review Text

This for the Heaven High, Hell Deep market, with certain limitations. It is English, more definitely an air book, and not quite so spontaneous and almost irresponsible. Over and above that, it is a delightfully written, well paced account of the air career of a youth who broke into the air service from school, at the age of seventeen - and made good. One gets the feeling of the war from the airman's point of view, a frank recognition of the horrors but equally of the advantages the air force had in that respect over the other branches of the service. Now and again he launches forth into his conviction that wars must cease - but that as things are now they can't. A human document, which everyone interested in various facets of the war and everyone interested in any angle on flying will find absorbingly interesting. Men and boys primarily.
