Description

Russian Poetry Reader is a a selection of Russian poems from 1752 to1956. The poets featured here represent a fair picture of Russian poetry of the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. However, special emphasis is laid on the lyric poetry of the 19th and early 20th centuries, including women writers and minor poets. The selections vary in their level of difficulty, thus enabling the teacher to make some choices according to the needs of the students in a particular class. This collection offers an insight into the historical and cultural background of the different time periods, as well as a wide variety of poetic texts, thus helping to further the linguistic competence and the literary knowledge of advanced Russian students, while providing an enjoyable reading experience. This book includes biographical sketches of the authors, a Russian-English glossary, cultural notes and an index.show more
