Roy Deforest, 2012
Who called Roy De Forest an obscure visual constructor of mechanical delights? He did. The delights he constructed generally involved dogs, cartoon faces with eminent noses, and eyes that look right through you. De Forest (American, 19302007) studied art in San Francisco and taught for nearly thirty years at the University of California, Davis, a revered instructor who challenged young artists to explore their imaginations. Country Dog Gentlemen, Memoirs of a Young Man, A Decoy for the Lonely Ponies, and Age, Wisdom, Dogma are among the twelve De Forest paintings included here.
