Ensign 27th Foot by purchase March 13th, 1852; Lieutenant without purchase May 25th, 1854; Captain without purchase October 18th, 1859; Captain 14th Foot by exchange July 10th, 1860; Captain 65th Foot by exchange April 16th, 1861; Major, Army, March 1st, 1864; Retired December 25th, 1867. Served in East Indies, October, 1854, to February, 1859; New Zealand, September, 1860, to April, 1864. Present in the following Engagements and Skirmishes in New Zealand, viz., Kutikura, June 4th, 1863; Kiri-Kiri, July 22nd, 1863; Storming of Rangiriri November 20th, 1863, when he was severely wounded (right arm broken). Granted a gratuity of one year's pay and a pension of, 100 per annum for three years.
