I do not propose to give anything like a full record of the numerous good works with which the name of the Corporation is associated, but I will mention. the Health Exhibition, which proved so great a success, this success be ing, according to the Duke of Buckingham, chiefly due to the support given by the Corporation of the City of London and the Guilds. (Cheers.) Alderman Sir R. Hanson, whose name was coupled with the toast, alluded to the increasing difiiculty which each Lord Mayor must find to equal his predecessors, and to the zeal which they all displayed in keeping up the reputation of the City. As to the Corporation, when they had such men as their present Chairman upon it, and when they saw the work which it did, they might well feel that no system could serve them better. (Applause.) The Master, in proposing " The City Guilds," said: I may substantially repeat what I have said of the Corporation. They each and all are great supporters of the cause of education, both general and technical. In fact, the claims of the Guilds are almost identical with those of the Corporation, whether we regard them as ancient institutions, which in the past have done good service, or as bodies who in the present time are working together to advance technical education in the various industries and crafts they represent.
