Our customer reviews
I loved the book. It's scary, creepy and very imaginative. Thomas is just a boy when he has to start working as the Spook's apprentice. Because he's young and not very experienced yet he makes mistakes and those mistakes lead to disastrous things. He solves his own problems though, sometimes with a little help. He needs to face and overcome his biggest fears and he has to be as smart as he can be to stand a chance against the evil witch Mother Malkin. Thomas's predecessors haven't all survived the job and Thomas is the last apprentice of the Spook. He has to do the job.
I love the way the story has been written. Both the language and the pace are strong points. The story is frightening, vivid and sometimes gruesome. It's a pleasure to read for both children and grown ups.show more
