He became superintendent of the Missouri Pacific, afterwards general superintendent of the St. Louis, Iron Mountain & Southern, then manager of the Southern Pacific, with headquarters at San Francisco. Later he was manager of the Denver & Rio Grande, and resigned that office to accept his present one with the Colorado & Southern. RICHARD FERRIS, MINNEAPOLIS. In Minneapolis, the well-known actor and manager is referred to as "Dick" Ferris. He is one of the successful owners of stock companies. He began life in 1867 at Washington, D. C, and was educated in public schools, then later in the government service at Washton. He was also five years in the militia at Washington. A few positions he has held are these: Government clerk, five years; freight rate clerk of the Wabash railway, two years; traveled for cigar house and hardware firm; studied law; made his professional debut in McVickers' theater, Chicago, 1889. After playing with Augustin Daly, he launched his own shows, and is now lessee and manager of the Lyceum theater; proprietor of the Ferris Stock companies at Chicago, Minneapolis, Omaha, St. Paul and Duluth; Ferris companies en route, Grace Hayward company, Way Out...show more
