These are the first that I have ever seen, and I find by inquiry that there wery three Bills which were printed, and which were submitted by the parties who prepared them to some or all, I do not know which, probably to all the vicars-apostolic then in England; and some objections were raised or suggestions made by some parties, which led to a revisal and reprint before a more general circulation was made; and whether these are the originals, or whether this (producing the same) is the revise, Icannot say. All the papers relating to them, as I am informed, were destroyed at the fire in Linc0ln's Inn. (Some documents were then lmnded in.) 2657. Mr.Austey. Destroyed by fire in Lincoln's Inn; on what occasion was that?--Upon the occasion of the fire in New-square. 2658. In whose chambers were those documents P--In Mr. Bagshaw's chambers, a barrister. 2659. VVas he acting as counsel for Dr. Wiseman on that occasion, or for the bishops'?--I do not know that he was acting as counsel for Cardinal Wiseman at that time. He had been requested, I believe, by the bishops to give them his suggestions, and as I am informed and believe, if these be the originals, that these were the fruits upon that occasion. 2660.
