The boys attacked the horse and the bars with remarkable vigour. There are both cutlass drill and musketry exercises, and a Meld-piece has recently been supplied. The boat-pulling is good. On shore are the swimming bath and a playfield. There was 1 death in September from pneumonia. From October and through the winter there were in all 15 cases of pneumonia. During about the same time there were nearly 30 rases of conjunctivitis, corneitis, and sore eyes. Ulcerated feet and abcesses figure somewhat prominently. One case of synovitis and 1 of middle ear disease complete the list of serious sickness. Three Iwys have been discharged as unfit for the training. 'Hie complete arrangements for skilled nursing in the well-equipped shore infirmary are a great safeguard. Last year the boys migrated to Elie for a fortnight, with great advantage to the general health, and the experience is to be repeated this year. Indnntrial APPENDIX No. II. (B.) Schools.--Industrial Schools.--Mixed--continued. Singing (sol-fa), good. Composi t i o n in VL, good: in V., girls, good; boys, very fair. Recitati on, barely fair. Geography, fairly good. Mental arithmetic, very fair in upper, good in lower standards Hi-tory readers have been used in Standards III. to VL Object lessons have leen given to the juniors. Drawing is taught throughout. Twenty-four senior boys attend the class for mathematics, and 15 junior girls have kindergarten instruction. The general intelligence, as shown in the ordinary class subjects, is below the level of schools with a less ambitious curriculum.
