Excerpt: ...this Department cooperated with the City Chamber of Commerce in a campaign to make the city beautiful Some sixteen thousand packages containing seeds of attractive flowers were donated for this purpose. These packages were distributed to the children in the grammar schools who had a place to plant them at home. The children showed great interest and as the flower seeds were of varieties easily grown the results were excellent. Through the kindness of the City Park Department two acres of ground in Fulton Park was secured. The ground was plotted out in good sized gardens and allotted to school children in that neighborhood. The parents of these children assisted in the supervision of the gardens which beside being instructive furnished considerable food for their families. During the summer months personal visits were made, so far as possible, to individuals carrying on the different pursuits. Bulletins covering these pursuits were furnished on request. The Third Annual Agricultural Fair was held under canvas on St. Mary's School grounds, September 28, 29, 30. An unusual severe ' storm of wind and rain on the second night of the fair blew down the tents causing many losses and disappointed many children who were scheduled to visit the exhibit. Except for this occurence it was the concensus of opinion that the fair exceeded those of the past two years. I wish to thank the principals and teachers for their kind cooperation. Respectfully, B.
