About Nancy Northcott

Nancy Northcott's childhood ambition was to grow up and become Wonder Woman. Around fourth grade, she realized it was too late to acquire Amazon genes, but she still loved comic books, science fiction, fantasy and YA romance. As a history major at Davidson College, she spent a summer studying Tudor and Stuart England at Oxford University. Nancy became an attorney but eventually realized her internal super heroine needed more room to play. She left the legal profession to teach at the college level and to write freelance articles and novels, most recently blending her extensive knowledge of fantasy into her own stories. A sucker for fast action and wrenching emotion, Nancy combines the romance and high stakes she loves in her new contemporary mage series. Married since 1987, she considers herself lucky to have found a man who not only enjoys a good adventure story but doesn't mind carrying home a suitcase full of research books. Nancy and her husband live in North Carolina and have one son, who also likes a good adventure story. Nancy Northcott is a RWA Golden Heart finalist. Renegade is her debut novel. Our customer reviews

I spent the last couple of days devouring RENEGADE and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I'm still mulling it all over in my head, digesting the story and characters. For me, this is a positive sign that the story has really impacted on me. I won't rehash the storyline, you can read the blurb for that. Ms.Northcott's story was a mix of everything. What I really loved about RENEGADE was the mix of paranormal romance, solid world-building and the urban fantasy like feel to the setting/action. RENEGADE was complex - the plot, world-building and romance were given equal weight, none was heavier than the other. I like a story that's multi-layered and this certainly gave me what I was looking for. A quick mention about the world-building. I liked the idea of the mages & their magic, Mundanes and ghouls (as well as additional otherworldly beings) in a contemporary setting. The rules that governed the mages powers, the different skills and structure of the hidden society was intriguing. I'm interested to know more about the conflict between the mages & ghouls and I'm sure this will be dealt with in later books. There were times the angst of both leading characters seemed repetitive or over-emphasised but this didn't detract from the reading too much, I was willing to overlook it as I was enjoying it so much. The cast of characters was quite large and sometimes a handful to keep in my head, but I think also this was part of the appeal of the book, the complexity an added layer of depth. Again, I was enjoying it enough to overlook this. Anyone who reads Angela Knight's Mageverse series might like to give this series a look. GUARDIAN, Bk#2 & Stefan's story, is out in May 2013 and I'm looking forward to reading it. This series has great potential!show more
