Description

At first, only a few things are known about the celestial object that astronomers dub Rama. It is huge, weighing more than ten trillion tons. And it is hurtling through the solar system at inconceivable speed. Then a space probe confirms the unthinkable: Rama is no natural object. It is, incredible, an interstellar spacecraft. Space explorers and planet-bound scientists alike prepare for mankind's first encounter with alien intelligence. It will kindle their wildest dreams... and fan their darkest fears. For no one knows who the Ramans are or why they have come. And now the moment of rendezvous awaits -- just behind a Raman airlock door.show more

Our customer reviews

I enjoyed 2001 for its immersive atmosphere, Rama, not so much. Maybe his ideas were novel when he wrote them (O'Neill was fiddling with it at around the same time), but in 2012 most of it lost its luster. It is an interesting read though, but what really disappointed me was the size: it's a short novel you'll finish quick and it doesn't go as deep into all the matters it touches as i expected it to. I really hoped there was more depth to the story. Short stories and novels are supposed to end, this one leaves too many questions unanswered as well as unexplored.show more
