Review quote

Andrew Carter gives new life to Rejoice in the Lord alway. A little bending of the rules ('Re' placed on the first beat of the bar/catchy little quaver rest in the middle 'Lord') in the opening figure soon proves attractive and acceptable in itself, not least by sheer force of repetition. There are some parallels with Purcell in treatment and texture - his spirit is never far away - and in the enjoyment to be derived from singing it. Organists' Review May 2002 In a completely different mood is Rejoice in the Lord alway, published as part of the Oxford Anthems series. This is an exciting work, full of variety and drama. It contrasts rhythmical writing with exciting use of syncopation and more sustained, legato sections, also utilising a variety of vocal textures throughout. In the right directors' hands and with a reasonably accomplished choir this work will potentially prove most dynamic. Music Teacher March 2002 There are some lovely moments; the ethereal 'And the peace of God' is not so easy, but your choir will enjoy the broad melody at 'and whatsoever things are true'.
