Description

Here I describe my first experience on 16 August 1997 in Crete, after about 300 hours of breathing and counting: As soon as I inhaled and counted the first number silently, a sudden, overwhelming feeling ran through my whole body that felt as if I was being charged with a pleasant electric shock. As I counted the next number the feeling got stronger, my eyelids began to tremble and the muscles inside my knees and my thighs moved; it felt as if a stream of blood was rushing upwards towards my thighs. Then it stopped and I carried on counting. Now, a pleasant, smooth current ran through my whole body; the more I counted the stronger it became. Slowly, as I carried on breathing and counting, first my hands and feet, then my legs, began to lift off the bed slightly and as my arms began to move upwards my whole body became very light, it did not weigh anything and my breathing was very quiet. I wish I could convey the experience in a way that those reading it would feel as I did. Meditating is very easy now. I only have to close my eyes and almost immediately I relax and the more I concentrate the deeper the relaxation is. The pattern has changed from that of the earlier days. Now it is always the same. I close my eyes and begin to breathe but I don't count. Sometimes I don't have to start by taking deep breaths. Sometimes, as soon as I close my eyes I go into it immediately. I keep quite still, my breathing is slow or almost non-existent and my whole body is relaxed as far as my toes. Then, I lie there and think, and the more I think, the more into relaxation I go. My face muscles become taut, and my lips begin to tremble slightly, and slowly, slowly I begin to float. ...as I continued to breathe my legs and thighs became unbearably relaxed and the pleasant current went up to my neck and throat and it felt like a pleasant sort of suffocation. It overwhelmed me but I wanted it to be there. I felt something move inside my knees and they began to stretch and stretch. I felt dizzy from relaxation. I went to hospital in February 1998 and my injury is healing well. In the place where the large hole was where the bone was wearing away, there was now a small hole like a dot. The growing bone is filling in the empty space and the doctor said that there is no sign of arthritis and will see me again in a year's time.show more
