Random Thoughts of a Stupid Man
This is my first attempt at writing a book. I have always been told I tell a pretty good story, so I thought I would try to put it to print. I've been told I sometimes master making a short story long and I would like to think a long story short. Random Thoughts of a Stupid Man, is exactly that: somewhat tongue in cheek at times, but definitely random. I call it a memoir with a twist. I have attempted to allow you to wander through my life as I have, ranging from childhood, high school, college and my experiences as a husband, father and coach. Along the way there are several distinct random thoughts sprinkled among the not-so-distinct random thoughts. Points of reference include family and marital relations, parenting, sports from the viewpoint of a player and coach. Being raised in a military family is addressed along with moving all over the country to my dad's various duty stations. There are also some historical references and points of obscure trivia I have picked up in my travels. Men who read this book, I hope will come away empowered with the ability to also admit they to are "Stupid Men". There is no shame in it. The women who read this book, I'm hoping will establish confidence to continue in their quest to train and mold the "Stupid Men" in their lives. We are all trainable, even if only one "smidge" at a time. If any of you do not know what a "smidge" is, contact my wife. I also want to thank, Jansina, at Rivershore Books for giving me a second chance to publish this book. Greatly appreciated!

About Mike Turnbull
I am 54 years old and my wife Pam and I live in Hibbing, MN. I coach and teach at Hibbing Community College and Pam runs the Mitchell-Tappan House Bed & Breakfast in Hibbing. Pam & I own the B&B but she is the Innkeeper and I claim to be the Groundskeeper, either way, she is the boss and does a great job. Come stay with us sometime. Pam and I have been married for 32 years and have two grown children. Lexie [Baack], who lives in Auburn, NE with her husband Jeff, works as a coach and choir accompanist at the high school and Jeff farms. Our son Blaine, lives in Minneapolis, MN and works in a juvenile detention center at city hall in Minneapolis. I have taught and coached all over Minnesota for the past 33 years and have cherished every day of my career. I grew up the son of Jack and Patricia Turnbull and one of four siblings. I have four younger sisters, Terri, Lisa [Rahja], and Stacie [Jennings]. My dad was a career navy man, so we moved all over the U.S.. He retired from the Navy in 1975 and we moved from New Jersey to Ely, MN where I started my junior year of high school. I received my A.A. dgree from Vermilion Community College in Ely, MN in 1979. My Bachelor's Degree from Bemidji Stae University in Bemidji, MN in 1981 and my Master's Degree from the U.S. Sports Academy in Daphne, AL in 1990. I had never attempted to write a book before now. I had thought about it and had been encouraged to do so by friends and family members. A couple of years ago, I decided to take on the project and have found it to be both a humbling and rewarding experience. In my 54 years on this earth I can not pretend to have anything figured out, but I do think I have a unique story to tell and I hope it strikes a chord with my readers. I have had these random thoughts for as long as I can remember and I've managed to write a few down for you to consider and ponder. I have always taken pride in being referred to as "Coach," second to my favorite titles of "Husband" and "Dad". I never dreamed I would see "Author" in front of my name. I can only hope this might help me gain entry into the "Stupid Man" club' if and when I get to heaven.
