B." TO MRS. F. "Torquay, May 4th, 1871. "Dear Mrs. F., --The above address explains the delay in my receipt of your letter until to-day. If our gracious Lord so lead us, we shall be back at Ballykisteen probably before the end of the month. To tell you of the abundance of the riches of His mercy to us all since last you and I met would be sweet, but take overlong for writing. The Lord is teaching us to open our mouths wide to Him. "There has not been a regular public place available in Tipperary for preaching the gospel since I have known it, but a private house has been very kindly lent occasionally of late. I would not say there is no opening. Tipperary is very dry: very few signs of life discernible anywhere. A fine field, but the soil is hard, for there has been no ploughing or grubbing there for long. The clergy now and then preach the gospel, but somehow it does not seem to awaken sleepers, or quicken the dead. Places of worship, as they are called, have a dulling effect, I think. "Thankful to hear Carlow is still being blessed with the word. "And what of yourself? You might have given me a little news. Perhaps much tribulation.
