"I should think, Miss Janet," said Jerry on this day in question, "I should think you'd send Francois to the Cat Show. I know that he would take a prize, and a first prize, too! " Now, this was just Janet's idea of her pet as a winner; but she did not, as before said, wish to tell Jerry her secret, choosing rather to surprise him. "Do you believe he would really take a first prize?" she asked. "I should not like to have him stand number two, and if he only got a second prize, just think how disappointed I should feel!" " Oh, but he won't, Miss Janet; never fear. Send him, won't you?" urged Jerry. "I'll think about it," Janet replied. And think about it she did. For the next day-there being but few days intervening before the 25th, the last day of entries--Janet penned a neatly written letter to the manager of the M. E. W. Exhibit, telling him that she wished to enter, for the coming show, her yellow Angora cat, a thorough-bred, named Francois, the Count, and closed by saying, --"I know that he will take the first prize." The confident tone of Janet's letter made the manager smile as he read it; for there were so many owners equally confident, that the first prize, in order to satisfy all, would have to be cut into infinitesimal small bits!
