The six sections into which it is divided, each with its quota of chapters, are: --General Pathology. Embryology, Anatomy, and Histology. Affections of the Enamel and Dentine. Diseases of the Dental Pulp. Diseases of the Pericementum. Pericemental Diseases beginning at the Gum Margin. The pharmacological section presented in the first edition has been omitted, but we are glad to note that the remedial agents referred to in the text have been completely indexed. To sum up the work as a TextBook of Dental Pathology and Therapeutics, it could be urged that too much space has been devoted to histological matter, at the expense of questions which are purely pathological. Hence it might be asked whether embryology, anatomy, and histology are entitled to occupy so many pages, if, indeed, they have any place at all in a book dealing ostensibly with pathology and therapeutics. It seems diificult to determine the scope of a work which treats of diseased conditions. The relative bearing of one condition upon the other is so prominent in all deviations from the normal standard of vitality that the careful author is prone to digress, lest he should fail to impress the student with the importance of it. Much of the space taken up by the three above-named subjects could have been devoted to a more serious and exhaustive consideration of some diseased conditions of the mouth, the etiology of which is very obscure, and for which no really satisfactory treatment is as yet forthcoming.
