The mighty stream of human history, with its source somewhere in the impenetrable wilderness of antiquity, moves onward with a continual flow. Its goal, -the great ocean of happy culmination, lies beyond our horizon and so hidden from our view. We are a part of this onward movement and are included in the countless multitude of small streamlets that make uo the poweriul stream OI human life. We feel the surge 01 the cast aees as we enter the stream; we are whirled about in the eddies of manv cross currents; we are caught in the ebb-tide oi doubt, of retrogression, and OI deieat; but a gain we ride the crest of the torrent 0: human progress. Lhe stream winds, and doubles back upon itself, out its current is never brok en. New streamlets tend to change the course or condition of the stream according to the force and direction of their own currents.
