Review Text

If Eskimo U decided to use this book in a cultural survey course of Americana, the class would probably catch the nearest reindeer north. Away from those nuts like the Pump House Gang, bleached beach boys of the Big Sur with their under-twenty-five hang-loose society. Or filthy rich recluses like Hugh the Hef with his 'rrrr-rrrr-rrrr" revolving bed Playboyisms. And there's oh big topless mama Carol Doda with her silicone supported man-oh-mammaries; Marshall McLuhan, "the theoretical cognitive psychologist" met here when first espousing his message is the medium and oh messiah. . . "what if he is right." There's Art World snobbism; Britishers - "Middle-Atlantic men" who try to go classless by becoming All-American - (The Europeans in reverse); the motorcycle mayhem brassed and polished in-of-all-places Columbus, Ohio; the "Shockkkk of Recognition" of Natalie Wood and Tom Wolfe's very own tips on today's etiquette. Oh so very savant-garde. (Kirkus Reviews)show more
