Description

for SATB and keyboard, with C instrument obbligato This warm and contemplative setting captures the modal origins of the famous American folk tune. The text focuses on the journey from this life to the eternal life. After the reflective tune is initially sung with the organ, an a cappella section follows, providing a nice contrast. The optional and easy instrumental part expands the sound and adds a pleasantly new dimension. Church choirs and congregations will undoubtedly connect with this soft and lovely music.show more

About M. Durham

Don Michael Dicie has been fond of spirituals, folk songs, and plainsong since he began music lessons in elementary school in Birmingham, Alabama. During his formal music training, he developed his main musical interests of music theory and composition while studying with William Baxter and Hugh Thomas. From 1966 to 1972, he was the organist and choir director at the Cathedral of St. Paul, Minnesota. From 1973 to 1994, Dicie taught reading and vocal music in Nashville public schools and, from 1976 to 1994, was organist and choir director at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Franklin, Tennessee. He then served as organist and Church Music Director at Trinity United Methodist Church, Franklin, Tennessee. In January 2005, Dicie returned to St. Paul's Episcopal Church where he is currently the organist and composer in residence.show more
