Excerpt: ...prosecution to choose between them, and the reasons given in the published Resolution for not interfering with the existing practice are, in the opinion of Government, sufficient, . (i) The allegations in question have heen incidentally noticed and refuted in the reports on the petition, hut no special inquiry was made in connection with them. They seem to have arisen out of the inquiry made at the request of Government with the object of ascertaining how many of the persons, whose names are appended to the petition, were licensees, or unsuccessful applicants for, (c)r persons who have heen deprived of, their licenses, and how many unconnected with the trade, and are sufficiently answered hy the fact that hoth in the departmental reports and in the orders of Government the petition has been allowed all the weight due to it on the assumption that the signatures are authentic.. The Honourable Mr. Tajnik then put question No. 9--In reference to the Honourable Mr. Trevor's reply to question No. 3 put by the Honourable Mr. Vishnu Raghunath Natu about the Panvel Settlement, will Government be pleased to state, now that the memorial of the landholders of Panvel is before them and contains allegations of errors and departures from the accepted rules of the Department, whether any inquiry has been made as prayed for by them; and if no inquiry has been made, what steps Government contemplate taking with a view to give relief? The Honourable Mr. Tebvob in reply said: --The allegations contained in the memorial are being inquired into. The reports of the local officers in the matter have not yet been received.
