On motion of Mr. Doherty, The report of the State Forestry Warden was accepted and ordered spread at large upon the minutes. To the Public Domain Commission, Gentlemen: --The following work was done at the two Reserves in the month of February, 1913: Nearly all the pole-wood in the yard at Higgins Lake, to the amount of forty or fifty cords, was sawed and split and as much as could be, was put into the basement. The ice house at this place was filled with ice taken from Higgins Lake. Some dead and down timber in the swamp near headquarters was cut into logs, and about 3,000 feet of this, consisting of hemlock, cedar and tamarack, was drawn to the mill. The rest of the time was spent in some of the pine plantations "brushing out." At the Houghton Lake Forest the Custodian, who is without an assistant, had his fire-wood to get out and crop of ice to harvest Most of the time, however, he was in the field overseeing the woods operations and scaling timber. Scales were made for a number of parties, but owing to a delay in the payments for the stumpage, these scales have not yet been turned in. Conditions were very favorable for woods work the greater part of the month, and most of the operators are still busy. Respectfully submitted, Marcus Schaaf, March 10, 1913. State Forestry Warden.
