About Matthew A. Carr

CDR Matthew A. Carr, USN is a Naval Systems Engineering graduate of the Naval Academy, class of 1981. He was selected by ADM H.G. Rickover for nuclear submarines and subsequently served on the USS Tecumseh (SSBN-628), USS Sunfish (SSN-649), and USS Simon Lake (AS-33). A registered professional engineer with a PhD in mechanical engineering, Carr serves on the faculty of the Naval Academy as a permanent military professor and is director of the course "Naval Engineering II: Propulsion and Auxiliary Systems," which is taught to approximately 700 midshipmen annually.
