Description

We learn a lot about our past by examining the songs. This volume is a collection of songs and ballads from the frontier days when the West was still wild. Many of these were sung around the campfire, or to the cattle to soothe them at night. Some, more bawdy than others, were oft heard wafting out of the bat-wing doors of the saloon. All have their own, special place in history, and all should be remembered and sung again. Maybe, in reading these, we can recapture a little of the glory of those years gone by.show more

About Burl L Brooks

Burl L Brooks is a man of many talents, horse trainer, poet, genealogist, husband, uncle and father, Raised in rural Missouri, on a small horse farm, books and horses were often his only outlet for a wildly creative imagination. He developed a fascination for writing early in life, but it wasn't until much later that he really started writing in earnest. He developed a love for books, but poetry in particular always grabbed his attention. It started with copying Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Emily Dickinson for girlfriends, then, before he knew it, he was penning "sonnets" of his own. As he has matured, so has his writing. In the early 1990s, while serving in the USAF he was stationed at RAF Lakenheath north of London, England. While there he got to do a bit of rambling and even picnicked on the lawn of Cambridge University. Nowadays, Burl spends most of his time in the saddle, which inspires him to keep writing, for his love of the written word is second only to his love of horses.show more
