GENTLEMEN, ----I purpose to-day to call your attention to a condition of which we have recently had in Adelaide Vard a remarkable and instructive series of illustrative cases, viz. strangulation of an unsuspected ovarian cyst owing to accidental twisting either of the pedicle or, as happened in one of the cases, of the tumour itself. The symptoms to which this accident gives rise, when the twist occurs suddenly, are severe and not seldom alarming. They consist of sudden and severe abdominal pain, followed by increase in the size of the abdomen and such extreme tenderness as almost invariably to give rise to the suspicion of general peritonitis. These symptoms are accompanied by vomiting, and a greater or less degree of collapse.
