Review Text

The Practice is headed by Dr. John Porteous which is a cluster of medical men in Plume, England, any one of whom should have seen fit to put this book out of its misery by the third chapter. It's a running sore of unhappy to unsavory conditions: take his helpers - Corfield, he's homosexual; Masters, he has a dreary wife, he drinks and eventually kills a patient on the table; Trevor Shaw, who comes down from London running away from divorcee Betty but returning to her at the close after she has a double mastectomy. There are some twenty odd patients they attend but it would be gratuitous to diagnose their troubles. Most of them submit to a complete physical although it is not in the interests of their health.
