The Pacific coast states are reported doing a good business to Missouri points and Michigan is expected to begin shipping beet sugar next week. Latest information from the interior is that the indications are for a record breaking domestic beet sugar crop this season, it being estimated that there will be about 1,000,000 bags more of domestic beet sugar to be marketed this season than last. The estimated yield of the domestic beet sugar crop is 325,000 to 350,000 tons against 210,0u0 tons last year. The Louisiana cane crop also is expected to be a large one, probably somewhat in excess of last year, although latest reports are that the yield will not be as large as was generally expected a month ago. Grinding of the Louisiana crop is expected to become general during the latter part of October. It is understood that planters are beginning to grapple with the labor situation and hope to be able to overcome the difficulties of yellow fever epidemic by placing quarantine stations throughout the state where laborers can be kept in quarantine for ten days and then be allowed to pass on to the plantations. The demand is heavy for the season and if conditions in the market were more settled it would be n record breaking period, but with such uncertainties as exist and the almost universal expectation of a still lower market it is hard to induce any buying except for immediate requirements.
