The Photosynthetic Reaction Center: v.2
Volume 2 of the two volume set of texts on the photosynthetic reaction centre covers specific details of the electron transfer process and is oriented to the physical aspects of the process of photosynthesis. It thus deals primarily with either bacterial photosynthesis or model compounds. Volume 2 begins by discussing the very complex and rapidly evolving issues associated with the theory of electron transfer in the bacterial reaction centre. This is followed by an exploration of picosecond and femtosecond spectroscopy. Also covered in this volume are hole-burning spectroscopy; the primary events of bacterial photosynthesis with emphasis placed on the application of large, external electric fields designed to manipulate and to probe the mechanism of the initial chemistry; the role of accessory carotenoid pigments; infrared spectroscopy as applied to photosynthesis; the technique of magnetic resonance; and the interplay between natural and artificial photosynthesis.
