Before development place the plate for one minute in water and methylated spirit, equal parts. Toning Bath.--Platinic chloride, 1 gr.; nitric acid, 1 minim; water, 3 oz. For blue tones.--Pringle, Toning Collodion Slides.--Treat for a few seconds with mercuric ehloride solution--not long enough to show any bleaching; wash and treat with weak potass sulphide ("liver of sulphur ") solution.--York. THE ALBUMEN PROCESS. Solutions.--A. Iodised Albumen Solution.--Collect the whites of twelve eggs, separating the "germs"; place 10 oz. in a measure and add 24 minims of glacial acetic acid diluted with 1 oz of water, stirring very gently with a glass rod so as to mix thoroughly without frothing. Leave for some hours and remove the thick layer of coagulum from the top. Strain through a clean cambric handkerchief, and add: --Ammonia ('880), 40 minims; ammonium iodide, 42 gr.; ammonium bromide, 6 to 10 gr. Keeps good for a very long time, but needs addition of a drop or two of ammonia to keep it just smelling of ammonia. B. Collodion.--Old iodised collodion or any collodion giving a porous film. To make ordinary collodion porous, add a very small quantity of water, or shake up with a little sodium carbonate, and filter. C. Sensitising Bath.--Silver nitrate, 1 oz.; glacial acetic acid, 1 oz.; water to 10 oz. This becomes highly colored in use. Add kaolin, shake and filter, and it will be ready for use again. Method.--Clean the glass thoroughly and edge with rubber in benzol. Coat with collodion, and as soon as " set" plunge into water or wash under the tap until the "greasiness" disappears.
