Excerpt from Phonetic Readings in English The first thing a foreigner has to do when he Wishes to ac'quire the correct pronunciation of English or any other foreign language, 'is to learn to pronounce the individual sounds. For this purpose a good teacher is essential. The best results are achieved by imitation of the sounds pronounced by the teacher aided by a study of phonetic theory (that is' to say, a study of the positions of the organs of speech in forming the correct sounds) and the practice of suitable exercises.
