This electronic atlas is linked to a world encyclopaedia and a statistical database, and is specifically designed for school use. It consists of a disc plus a handbook which explains how to install the CD-ROM and gives suggested activities for helping students become familiar with it. The atlas provides the user with the tools required to access statistical data and display it in chart and map form. Screens can be searched electronically for keywords and icons, or moved through to greater levels of detail. The facility to cut and paste information increases the atlas's flexibility. All the information is accessed through world maps by clicking on a town or choosing a place name from the menu.
The atlas incorporates: a linked set of over 80 maps from a range of atlases, including "Philip's Modern School Atlas"; statistics from "Philip's Geographical Digest 1994-95", which can be processed and displayed in charts and maps; comprehensive encyclopaedia articles on all countries, which can be searched for keywords and cut or pasted from; detailed thematic maps allowing comparison of relationships such as vegetation, land use and climate; and satellite images with related maps for comparison.show more
