Review quote

"Discover the wonders of cartography through very interesting mixed-media projects that get our hands dirty, and our minds alive to who we are. The projects found in Personal Geographies are interesting not only because of the quality methods that they teach, but because of the meaningful thoughts that they provoke." --Jenny Doh/Crescendoh

"Quite simply, the best book I have received for review in a very long time. It does what a great book is supposed to do: Inspire, inform, teach. Berry kept it personal, and at the same time included enough history to make it a true resource. The projects are terrific and there isn't a single dud. That's something I say about once in a decade." --Judi Kauffman/Scrapbooking & Beyond Magazine/Paper Creations Magazine

"I was taken aback with the true uniqueness of Personal Geographies. There is truly no book out there like this. Personal Geographies takes readers on a journey of self-discovery by creating a series of different artistic maps. Those looking to expand their current artistic repertoire need to pick this up right away." --Christen Olivarez/Editor-In-Chief, Director of Publishing/Somerset Studio

Our customer reviews

I seldom buy a craft book without first checking it out but I ordered this online because I love the concept of making creative maps of oneself and one's life experiences. I am so pleased with the purchase, Personal Geographies: Explorations in Mixed-Media Mapmaking exceeded my expectations. The premise I'd already found fascinating; the execution of the book's objective is supreme. So many different types of artistic maps are showcased (head map, hand map, body map, heartmap, geographical maps, artistic and interpretive maps ...), the book is filled with great ideas and suggestions on how to map your feelings, experiences, travels, places and journeys - internal and physical. I also adore the snippets of facts (another personal obsession) about various maps from the past used by artists, cartographers and others that inspired some of the projects in the book. The artworks by author Jill K. Berry and her contributors are also fascinating and varied. Every page in Personal Geographies is a delight to the eyes. Many artistic styles are represented and a wide range of materials and mixed-media techniques are used for the projects and the pieces featured in the gallery. Why confine yourself to painting, drawing or sketching, try carving on copper foil or making a papier mache map of your heart. Or how about a pop-up map or a maze book filled with maps? I know I'll be spending lots of time with this book by my side as I map my life journeys, memories and discoveries. Well worth the money!show more
