Description

PENALTIES - a football based psychological thriller. Get into the minds of a team of professional footballers, immediately before, during and after a vital penalty shootout. A disturbing insight into mental illness and the implications of what can happen when this goes untreated. Part whodunit, part modern social commentary, PENALTIES will have you on the edge of your seat from kick off. A rare piece of football fiction dealing with harsh reality rather than the typical Roy of the Rovers storylines usually served up. A novel of two halves, the first part of the story is first person thoughts from the players of Lyttleton Albion FC as they prepare to take, or in the case of young goalkeeper Brandon Nicholas face, penalties in a shoot out which could send their club into the Premier League for the first time in their history. Once the match is over, the second part of the story follows the players in the disturbing aftermath of the match.show more

About Luis Adriano

LUIS ADRIANO was born in West London in the 1970s. 'PENALTIES', his most recently finished project, is a critically acclaimed football based crime novel dealing with many issues prominent, but often swept under the carpet, in the game - such as mental illness, sexuality and racism. His current work in progress is the contemporary tale 'Hello Mr Magpie'. Blake Chapman, a bored 29 year old father of twins, uses a London terrorist atrocity to fake his own death and move away from his family home in Kent. Will his new life in Chelsea show the grass actually can be greener and how will his wife and children cope with their tragic loss? Luis's writing influences include Irvine Welsh, Shane Meadows, Charles Dickens, John King, Stephen King, Gautam Malkani, Dame Jacqueline Wilson & Alex Turner. He tends to use a few naughty words in most of his work. Outside of writing, Luis is a devoted partner & father who would describe himself as a... Brentford supporting, music loving, Twitter tweeting, Kindle Book reading, KFC Snackbox munching, Fantasy Football failing, ex-retail managing, #dayjob hardworking, rootbeer drinking, Batchelor of the Arts in Sport Science and Education, baldie. He feels rather silly this profile is in the third person when he actually wrote it himself.show more
