NOTE.--Th wheels running the above plant weigh bu t 90 lb_s. each, and therefore show a capacity of nearly 2 h. p. for every pound of material, and including accessories to make the plant complete, such as shaftin(g, boxes, pulleys, gates, nozzles, etc., the proportion would be 4% lbs. to every h. p. develope The relative proportion of material in the best type of steam plants is from 400 to 500 lbs. for every h. p. NEW WORKS OF THE ROARING FORK COMPANY. This station is located so as to utilize the waters of both Maroon and Castle Creeks, the water being brought from the former in a 26-inch ipe 2,500 feet in length, and delivered to the wheels under a head of 312 feet, and from the atter in a 24-inch pioe 4,300 feet long, and delivered to the wheels under a head of 330 feet. The power plant consists of five PELTON WHEELS of 250 h. p. capacity each. The wheels are about five feet in diameter, being varied somewhat in size to give the same speed3oo revolutions--under the different heads the pipe lines afford. The wheels are all on 0I165l'laft, and provided with friction clutch couplings, making them operate-independently. The electric installation consists of five 250 h. p.
