Description

Can love conquer all? This is a wonderfully romantic novel from the No. 1 Sunday Times bestselling author of Recipe for Love, A French Affair and The Perfect Match. It's not as if Nel hadn't enough on her plate already: organising a farmers' market in the picturesque Paradise Fields and keeping track of her unnervingly beautiful teenage daughter - plus sorting out a houseful of animals - are quite enough to keep her busy. The last thing she needs is another complication in her life, but when her old friend Sir Gerald dies and his son, Pierce - accompanied by his glamorous American wife - takes possession of The Big House, it seems that preserving the Fields is not on his list of priorities. Nel takes up arms, determined to fight for the meadow and the market she loves. But whom can she trust? She's pretty sure her friends Sacha and Vivian are on her side, but her sensible boyfriend Simon, an estate agent, is less encouraging. And then there's Jake, the exaspering yet attractive stranger who kissed her under the mistletoe. Maybe she's been a not-so-merry widow for far too long...show more

About Katie Fforde

Katie Fforde lives in the beautiful Cotswold countryside with her family, and is a true country girl at heart. Each of her books explores a different profession or background and her research has helped her bring these to life. She's been a porter in an auction house, tried her hand at pottery, refurbished furniture, delved behind the scenes of a dating website, and she's even been on a Ray Mears survival course. She loves being a writer; to her there isn't a more satisfying and pleasing thing to do. She particularly enjoys writing love stories. She believes falling in love is the best thing in the world, and she wants all her characters to experience it, and her readers to share their stories. Review Text

What with trying to stay ahead of her three children (who are doing a very good job of looking after themselves) and the worthy causes she's committed to, widowed Nel's personal life seems to be on hold. That is, until she's kissed under the mistletoe by a (very) handsome stranger. At the same time nasty rumours start about a plan to build houses on Paradise Fields, the water meadows where Nel runs a market to raise funds for the local hospice, a plan that could threaten the existence of the hospice itself. As details come out, Nel finds that the attractive stranger is Jake Demerand, a solicitor acting for the owners of the water meadows, who appears to have been involved in dodgy deals in the past. So she tries to concentrate on her existing boyfriend, Simon, instead. He may be unexciting but he's a dab hand at cleaning out gutters and checking tyres, and who needs passion anyway? If Jake is untrustworthy, he's not the only one, and Nel becomes increasingly confused about who is with her and who's against as she works on ways to save the hospice and make the market viable. At the same time, her friends Vivian and Sacha, not to mention her stunning 18-year old daughter Fleur, are undermining her efforts to ignore Jake and are doing their best to increase her self-confidence, while she wonders who wants her for herself. Katie Fforde has a winning way with romance and a sense of humour to match: here you will find the real truth about cellulite and learn to love the body bits you hate, while you root for a caring community and a sympathetic three-dimensional heroine. Paradise Fields by Katie Fforde is a contemporary with chick lit appeal. I've only just found Ms Fforde's books and have enjoyed the two I've read so far. Paradise Fields is really engaging and fun. The characters are real and likable. I thoroughly forgot the world while reading this book! Bliss.show more
