Description

April 1941 - German bombers are about to attack Belfast. Oskar is a conscript in a pathfinder crew. Unknown to his comrades, he has taken a fateful decision - to bail out over neutral territory in search of his Jewish sweetheart, Elsa. In remote Dunkerin, the unpredictable Kitty awakes to find a parachute entangled in one of the lime trees. When she discovers the injured Oskar foraging for food in her kitchen, this is the most exciting thing that has ever happened to her. But Ireland during the Emergency is an uneasy place - and word of the parachute soon spreads. Meanwhile, Elsa's parents remain trapped in occupied Holland and her own future in Ireland is uncertain. All that remains of her lost life in Berlin is her love of the piano. When Charlie hears her play, he is mesmerised. Oskar, Killy, Elsa, Charlie - four lives intertwine in a climate of war, exile, and edgy neutrality.show more
