A. Briggs, who recently resigned. The new board mill of the Hinde and Dauche Paper Company at Toronto starts operations this week. An important announcement made in the last issue of the Ontario Gazette was the notice of the surrender of the charters of the four subsidiary companies of the Lake Superior Corporation at Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. These are the Algoma Steel Company, Limited; the Algoma Commercial Company; the Sault Ste. Marie Pulp and Paper Company, Limited, and the Algoma Iron Works, Limited. All these companies have been consolidated in the new Algoma Steel Corporation, whose charter is wide enough to enable the operations of each to continue. The Northern Construction Company, which operates a very large lumber mill on Rainy Lake, is proposing to buy the Sprague limits on the Quetico reserve in Northern Ontario. FRENCH INVENTORS AFTER EAST CANADA BONDS Bonds and securities of the East Canada Power and Pulp Company of the face value of $254400--but of real value more or less problematical--figured in court proceedings just brought to issue before Mr. Justice Bruneau. Badel Freres, bankers, of Paris, acting for French investors, were the plaintiffs, and the Banque Nationale, defendant, the former seeking possession of the bonds which were held on deposit by the bank.
