This revised and expanded dictionary contains 74,000 definitions and 56,000 entries, and also has been enlarged to include over 4000 encyclopaedic entries on people, places and institutions. There is up-to-date vocabulary, including new terminology, such as Big Bang, fibre optics, glasnost, Mexican wave, perestroika and yuppie, notes on usage, pronunciation, grammatical points and word origins. Names of capital cities, counties of the UK, states of USA and Australia, Provinces of Canada, major mountains, rivers, seas and constellations are all included with a new appendix showing countries of the world with the current head of government of each.
