Our customer reviews

Here's the birth story of one of my closest friends: She came to the hospital with minute-long contractions every 3 minutes. Her delivery was in process. She didn't have a doula. Her husband, though, was with her all the time. She was practicing Yoga positions during every contraction. It was so difficult for her to concentrate on birthing at the hospital. Doctors and nurses came into her room every 20 minutes to see how she was getting along. Well, it turned out she wasn't getting along QUICKLY enough. After 3 hours in the hospital a doctor came in and suggested a Pitocin injection. The doctor's reason: the baby may be at risk. My friend got scared and, of course, agreed to the doctor's suggestion. After an hour she couldn't stand the pain of the intense Pitocin-driven contractions and asked for an Epidural. Then she fell asleep. She woke up with an urge to push, but she couldn't lie in bed; she wanted to push in a different position. The doctor came and explained that, because of the interventions, she could not deliver in a different position other than lying down. The urge to push disappeared. Her doctor said that was a sign of labor regression and that she MUST have a C-section. But she didn't want to deliver her child through an incision. It's not what she had planned. We live in such an industrialized world. We are all being managed by financial interests. Who could have ever imagined that childbirth would also become an industrial process?! Well, here in Israel hospitals get $2500 for every child who is delivered. If the hospital uses complex procedures such as C-section or vacuum, it gets even MORE money from the health insurance company. So, is it ALWAYS a life saving situation? Up until a year ago, every child that was born it the hospital was given formula. Why is that? Was EVERY mom unable to breastfeed her child? Or was it a special agreement between the hospital and the formula companies? Well, most of us don't know things can be different! Most of us don't know home birth can be a safe option for delivery. Most of us don't know that our newborn should not be taken away from us right after delivery. Most of us don't know that we should trust our own intuition and our babies! Nature gave us all the tools we need to mother from the very moment we become mothers! This amazing book is a reminder of what our own society taught us to forget. We already know how to be moms! All we need is to listen to our inner knowing. The Other Baby Book contains all the right information to guide us from pregnancy through a child's first year. It gives us the courage to take a step back from the madness we've been sold by those driven by OTHER interests. It boils everything down to what's best for you and your child. Highly recommended!
