A Locomobile roadster has been purchased by the South Park Commission, of Chicago, for the use of Captain Richards. A trade event of the past month that attracted much attention was the opening of the new Ajax-Gricb rubber tire factory in Trenton, X. J. A large number of invitations to members of the trade and to press representatives were sent out, and a special train from New York and another from Philadelphia carried the guests to the opening. Governor Fort, of Xew Jersey, set the machinery in motion by the pressure of a button, and simultaneously set in motion the festivities of the occasion, which included various vaudeville features and a dimmer, with speechmaking. In a brief speech the Governor outlined the history of the Ajax-Grieb Rubber Company, which is a consolidation of the Ajax and Grieb Rubber Companies. The company was backed by several large motor car manufacturing companies for the purpose of securing their tires at lower than the prevailing prices, and within seven weeks of the day the company was organized in 1905 the first 500 sets of tires had been produced. The company claims to be the first to produce in America an open-cured, wrapped tread tire. An improved storage battery for ignition and lighting purposes has been brought out by the Apple Electric Co., of Dayton, Ohio, a new concern organized by Messrs. H. F., O. D. and V. G. Apple, formerly connected with the Dayton Electrical Mfg. Co., manufacturers of the well-known Apple igniter. V. G.
