No, I ought not, and yet it's true--it's true. Exit, L. I. (Music stops; Prof. stands watching him; then turns and knocks R. 1.) Car. (off R. 1). Come in. Exit Prof., R. I. Enter Hen., L. 2; looks around; then calls off. Hen. It's all right, Helen. There's no one here. Come in. (Enter Helen in a simple but becoming dress. Hen. in a happy tone.) This is what we call " The Old Curiosity Shop," Helen. Helen (looking around). Oh, doesn't it look interesting? Is that one of your oars? Hen. No. That's the famous broken oar. I'll tell you all about it later. But, Helen, come here; I want you to see the river. (Up to R. 2.) Helen (following). Oh, where the race is going to be? Hen. Yes. You can see the whole course from here. Helen. Oh, isn't it beautiful? I can hardly wait, Henry. Hen. Helen, tell me, did you come to see Weston or me win? Helen. Henry, I haven't seen or thought of Mr. Weston since that night you left Redville. Hen. Can you forgive me for the way I acted? Helen. It was all for the best because it sent you here. Hen. Helen, I can't tell you how glad I am that you came with mother to-day. I don't deny that I've had my little flirtations here, but I've always wished for you, and the moment I saw your face an hour ago, I forgot everything and everybody and all my old love for you tame back only a thousand times stronger.
