Excerpt from On the Restoration of Health: Being Essays on the Principles Upon Which the Treatment of Many Diseases Is to Be Conducted
Many of the following Essays originally appeared in the Medical M irror in 1868 and 1869, and one or two at an earlier period in other professional periodicals. As far as possible, each brochure has been kept within the bounds that are appropriate to a single article in a medical monthly. When the subject has demanded a longer treatment, I have preferred to divide it, treating each head separately, rather than have the first and second parts separated by the interval of a month. Short dissertations, like brief sermons, are generally the most acceptable ones.
