Thinking is not one of the characteristics of those ' common people.'-----W. D. Henkle, one of the editors of the Indiana School Journal, communicates to that periodical an article on the possessive case of nouns, in which he states that he has noted, in. his reading for the last six years, all instances of the possessive case of singular nouns which end in the sound of s or z; and his conclusion, founded on several thousand examples, is, that the rule given by many grammarians, namely, that ' when a. singular noun ends in ss, the apostrophe only is added, ' is erroneous, and that the correct rule is as follows: The possessive singular of nouns ending in ss, is formed by adding an Z Horace Mann, President of Antioch College, will address the literary societies of Otterbein University, at Westerville, in Franklin county, during the ' Commencement' exercises, June 22, 1858.-----We have given several lessons by which a teacher may test the articulation of his pupils, and now present two more. They will puzzle many boys and girls, we fear, who have not learned to read distinctly: Stick six straight, sleek, slim sticks around six crooked sticks; but don't mix the straight, sleek slim sticks with the six crooked sticks.
